waiting for
Lyrics:
We are the message spreaders We are the hope We are the ones who hold the joy They’ve been waiting for We have this power in us To go change countless lives But mostly we stick to ourselves and hide We are the shining souls We are ambassadors We need to serve the world Till no one’s hurting anymore We need to open doors Be blessings to the poor So friends I challenge you today: Whatchu waiting for? Oh, oh, oh, oh Whatchu waiting for? Oh, oh, oh, oh Whatchu waiting for? Oh, oh, oh, oh Whatchu waiting for? Oh, oh, oh, oh Whatchu waiting for? We are the freedom bringers We are the light We are the ones who offer peace In distressing times We have this gift within us We know there’s much at stake So why do we keep staying where it’s safe? We can do so much more We are a vital force We need to spread the love Like no one’s ever seen before We are the open doors A compass pointing north So friends I challenge you today: Whatchu waiting for? Oh, oh, oh, oh Whatchu waiting for? Oh, oh, oh, oh Whatchu waiting for? Oh, oh, oh, oh Whatchu waiting for? Oh, oh, oh, oh Whatchu waiting for? We carry the truth, we carry the hope We carry the love, the light The path to a better life We, in our daily routines Anyone that we meet Could be someone in need We are ambassadors We can do so much more We are a vital force Whatchu waiting for? We are the open doors A compass pointing north Bring blessings to the poor Whatchu waiting for? Oh, oh, oh, oh Whatchu waiting for? Oh, oh, oh, oh Whatchu waiting for? Oh, oh, oh, oh Whatchu waiting for? Oh, oh, oh, oh Whatchu waiting for? |

Lyrics and melody by Kelsey Gallant Produced by Cam Gallant at Blobfish Studios Check out CamGallant.com to hear more of Cam's productions! The Story Behind The Song:
This song pretty much came together in one night. There were subtle embellishments and edits added later, but if you listen to how this song sounded just 24 hours after it came into existence and compare that to how it sounds now, you won't hear many differences. The summer of 2020, Cam and I were both living at our parents' house. Cam worked nights, so I would take the night shift in the studio, and he usually took the early morning shift right after he got out of work. One night, while looking for a specific song in progress, I stumbled across a simple music track he'd assembled. I started humming a melody to it, and decided to record the melody as a sketch track. Once I'd done that, I realized that I already had a pretty good idea of what the song could be about, so why not just start writing the lyrics? I truly did not intend to write the whole song that night, but once I got to a certain point I thought, "It would be really cool for Cam to come home this morning and find a brand-new whole entire song." So I pushed through, filling in all the lyrics and creating the third verse (which had not been part of my original sketch track). When I woke up the next morning, Cam had already started adding effects to my vocals! I hadn't even intended for that vocal track to be the final track; I'd just recorded it so he would know what the song was supposed to sound like. Surprisingly, though, my first and only take sounded really good, so we just kept it. It's a funny contrast to all my other songs, in which I usually record the vocals many times, choose the best-sounding pieces from each track, and then sometimes decide to throw everything out and re-record it all. I wanted to call this song "Whatchu waiting for", but I didn't really know how to spell "whatchu." I typed out several possibilities and wasn't crazy about any of them. I finally decided this way of spelling it would work okay for the lyric sheet and lyric video, but for the title, I decided just to avoid it altogether and go with "Waiting For." I see this song as specifically a Christian call to action. That's what I had in mind as I was writing it. However, I was very intentional about NOT making the lyrics exclusively Christian. I wanted it to be the kind of song that would be played in all different venues and enjoyed by all different people. Although I think it's crucial to spread the message of Christ, I also think it's important to spread general messages of love, peace, and hope. It's all tied together, because these things all come from God. In 2016, I got the opportunity to go on a mission trip to Jinotega, Nicaragua. We worked with Outreach360 at a learning center for disadvantaged children. The goal of the program is to teach English in fun, engaging ways, to provide the children with more university and career opportunities in the future. The picture above is of one of the rooms of the learning center we worked in.
