i didn't plan thisGenre: realistic fiction
Topics: friendship, school, changes, crushes Recommended age: 10+ Alanna is about to start seventh grade at a brand-new school, but she isn’t worried. She’ll be with Daniel, who has been her best friend and next-door neighbor since the day she was born. And maybe this will be the year that she and Daniel start dating, because after all, that’s what they planned when they were in kindergarten. Alanna fully believes that she and Daniel will eventually marry each other, and her sister Lacey will marry Daniel’s brother Travis, and everything will be perfect.
|
But junior high starts poking holes in Alanna’s plans faster than a needle through fabric. Daniel starts making new friends, joining after-school clubs, and having less and less time to spend with Alanna. Travis and Lacey, now in high school, don’t seem to have the slightest romantic attraction to each other. And Alanna and Daniel’s one shared friend, Madalaine, seems a little too interested in Daniel… and Daniel seems to be returning the interest.
All Alanna wants is for things to go back to how they used to be. But is it possible that some changes can be for the better?
Why are there two covers? Are they the same book?
Yes, they are the same book. The leafy cover (illustrated by Camilo Zepeda Meza) was the original design. While I really liked it, my publisher wanted something that more clearly portrayed the genre. When I saw the blue cover, I agreed that it was a better fit for this particular story. Although the blue cover became the face of the paperback book and the image most used in promotional materials, the leafy cover remained the face of the Kindle version. |
