Hold Me Close
Lyrics:
I was a child Who used to dream Of sailing all the seas With you endlessly But time calls And children have to grow up And life pulls The sand beneath our feet Hold me close In this moment I'll hold you close Feel you breathe 'Cause all we know Is this won't last forever And all I know Is you with me Rough ocean waves Can crash into our lives And change the course Of ships overnight And I know That dreams can turn to embers But I know That embers turn to flames Hold me close In this moment I'll hold you close Feel you breathe 'Cause all we know Is this won't last forever And all I know Is you with me Oooh, oooh, oooh, oooh Oooh, oooh, oooh All we know Is memories last forever And all I know Is you with me |

Lyrics and melody by Kelsey Gallant Produced by Cameron Gallant and Kelsey Gallant at Blobfish Studios The Story Behind The Song:
Like many of my songs, this one started with a music track put together by my brother Cam, and I sang a "sketch track" to it -- melody with very few lyrics. Afterwards, I started working on coming up with the lyrics. Of all my songs to date, this one was the hardest to come up with the right lyrics for. I think mostly what made it so hard was the fact that the lines are so short, so whatever I wanted to say had to be said in very few words. I wanted to tell a meaningful story, but I was limited in how I could convey it. I also had trouble deciding what I wanted the song to be about. I knew it would be called "Hold Me Close" and I had the idea that it would have something to do with memories, with an element of sadness and/or nostalgia, but it took me quite a while to get to the current iteration. I had a few storylines that I considered, but I was never fully committed to any of them. This storyline came into my mind when I was thinking about how good things were in my life at that very moment, but how life is full of inevitable changes and the moment I was enjoying wouldn't last forever. I remember a time several years ago at the beach, thinking similar thoughts and coming up with the metaphor about time being the waves that pull the sand out from under our feet no matter how much we try to hold on. The song is about how life is unpredictable, everything is temporary, and things will always change, but it is a reminder to hold on to the beautiful moments while you have them, rather than worrying about what it will be like once they are over. A beautiful moment - Easter 2020
