Open Door
Lyrics:
I was a drifter in those days Yeah, I never found my place No, I never knew my way Oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh I was stuck, yearning for escape And thinking that I’d never be okay Expecting nothing’s ever gonna change But You knew what I was looking for And You showed me the open door Said Your love is here to stay I stood stunned, didn’t know what to say And I looked through the open door Caught a glimpse of something more I was intrigued but still afraid, hey But I felt something change Spent some time, trying to fix myself Yeah, too proud to ask for help Thought I needed no one else Oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh I bore the scars of things I’d done And thinking that I didn’t deserve love Believing that I’d never be enough But You held out that open door Said I’d be free forevermore ‘Cause Your love took my guilt away I stood stunned, didn’t know what to say And I looked through the open door Saw a path to something more I took a step, and then a leap of faith, hey And I felt something change Change I was so afraid, so lost and confused in a million ways And I was far from home, and tryna do life on my own and I was separate from You I was aimless, on a road to lose I was, I was, I was Till I ran through the open door Toward a life full of so much more In awe, don’t know what to say Your love took my breath away And I’ve found what I’m looking for I’ll be living in Your grace forevermore My life begins today Yeah, yeah, You took my breath away |

Lyrics, Melody, and Music by Kelsey Gallant (2021) Filmed by Cameron and Cody Gallant Blobfish Entertainment Media The Story Behind The Song:
I actually came up with the music and melody of this song when I was getting ready to film my live performance of "Out of My League." My brother Cody, who was setting up the filming equipment, wanted me to do a mic check, so I just started strumming the guitar in a random rhythm, and singing/humming along to it. I realized that I really liked it! Fortunately, we'd been recording the mic checks into Studio One (the program I use to produce my songs), so I was able to listen back to my new song idea later and come up with an actual structure and lyrics. The original recording had consisted of what would later become the first verse, then the third verse, then two choruses. I figured out how I wanted all of those parts arranged first, then wrote the lyrics. A few of the lyrics came from my original recording, such as "I was," "open door" and "oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh." I decided I wanted the song to be called "Open Door," and I wanted it to be a Christian song about God holding out an open door to everyone who wants to enter. I went back and forth between whether I wanted to perform this song live or fully produce it. It was a song that I could play while singing, which is rare for me, so I kind of wanted to do it live, but I could imagine drums and other instruments kicking in at certain parts, which made me consider a studio recording. I finally decided to do it live because most of my songs aren't recorded live, and I like variety. |
