This Christmas Night
Lyrics:
Look at all the pretty lights Through every window, shining bright The snow is falling, a gentle white On this Christmas night Children sleep with pleasant dreams And angels fly and candles gleam Illuminate the manger scene To help the world believe This is Christmas, Christmas night Everything is good and right Peace and hope and joy alight On this Christmas night Look at all the stars above The breeze as gentle as a dove Feel this night, so full of love We all have just enough This is Christmas, Christmas night Everything is good and right Peace and hope and joy alight On this Christmas night Look at all the pretty lights Feel the peace from every side Hope and joy and love alight On this Christmas night The image above is of my Christmas tree this year (2020). The image to the right is the album cover Cam designed when we originally created the song in 2017.

On Christmas Eve night of 2017, my brother Cam had some work to do for his job as a writer for Future Problem Solving Program International (if you have a minute to click on the link and check out their organization, I highly recommend it!), and he wanted me on hand for editing help. We decided it would also be fun, since we'd be staying up late anyway, to create a Christmas song to surprise everyone with in the morning. This was before we had really gotten into producing. We'd done a little bit, but not much. Here's an excerpt from my diary that night: We worked on FPS stuff from 10:30 to midnight. Then we jogged and got a short break, and I spent my break helping Mom with the cleanup stuff. Then we worked on FPS again from 12:40 to 2:10. Then came the fun part… Christmas song! Cameron told me to write lyrics and I had no idea what kind of lyrics to write until he started playing the loop and it was really easy to sing along to, so I wrote the lyrics and we banged out the song. It took 52 minutes to do the lyric writing and recording. Then Cam had to do extra work on harmonies after. We had fun playing the song for our family on Christmas morning. I remember my grandmother recognizing my voice (we hadn't told anyone ahead of time that it was a song we made) and saying "I know this artist." I remember thinking about how it was really cool that we now had a song with my name on it in our iTunes library. Becoming an actual musical artist still seemed so far-off and unreachable at that point in time, which is really funny to think about now. In 2020, when we really got into producing and started taking it seriously, I decided to re-record "This Christmas Night." The old version had a lot of pitch and timing issues, with artificial harmonies arranged using pitch-correction software. The new version has the same music, but entirely re-recorded vocals with natural harmonies. |
