Fun Times
All friends have fun memories together, right? That’s part of what makes you friends! Allisen and her friends have a ton of great times together during their first year of high school, from the beach party the week before school starts to Stivre’s mom’s wedding in June.
In Book #38, “Important Words”, Allisen, Kim, and Shevea start a Bible study group as part of a requirement for their class at church. Jack, Stivre, and Ellie all join, even though Jack isn’t very familiar with the Bible, and Stivre hardly even knows what the Bible is. Is a Bible study group something they would have joined had it been someone other than their friends leading it? Probably not. But they join anyway, because they want to support their friends.
In Book #39, “We’ve Got Talent!” everyone is trying to think of what they want to do for the talent show. Allisen and her friends are all different people, so of course they have different things they’re each good at and different things that interest them. Allisen doesn’t feel like any of her talents are talent-show-worthy, but Jack encourages her that she has plenty of talents and will be able to think of something. Allisen finally comes up with the idea of combining everyone’s talents into an act they can do together, where everyone has a chance to shine at the particular thing they enjoy.
In Book #41, “Halfway to Independence Day”, Kim invites Allisen, Shevea, Jack, and Stivre up to Vermont for a weekend of skiing and snowboarding! There, Jack teaches Allisen a more efficient skiing method, and Stivre and Shevea bond over similarities in their interests and family structure. Shevea explains to Allisen and Kim that understanding where Stivre’s coming from has made her like him more as a person.
In Book #42, “Bright or Dim Me?”, Stivre and Shevea show Allisen that she can trust them by not sharing her secret with any of the others. In Book #43, “Vee Is For Victory”, Allisen and her friends go bowling together. Allisen’s friends may not understand exactly why she chose to invite Vee, of all people, but they’re cool with her decision and the entire group ends up having a blast.
Allisen and her friends are loyal to and supportive of one another, even when their dreams and desires conflict with each other’s (think of how Jack reacts when Allisen tells him about her crush on Dimmy). And that loyalty is part of what helps them have so much fun together.
