Carolina is Allisen and Mirisen’s cousin, but a cousin can be a friend as well. In fact, Carolina and Mirisen have always been best friends with one another.
So you can probably imagine how let down Mirisen feels when Carolina starts spending all her time with Avy, and how it must feel like a punch in the stomach for Mirisen to hear Carolina calling Avy her “best friend”! Carolina isn’t a very good friend to Mirisen for the first half of Book #8: “Going to Carolina.” Although she tries to include Mirisen at first, once it’s clear that Mirisen and Avy aren’t going to get along, Carolina repeatedly chooses Avy over Mirisen. When Avy and Mirisen get into a fight, Carolina takes Avy’s side, causing Mirisen to storm out of the room in tears. Mirisen is a good friend to Carolina, however, when Carolina’s gerbil appears to be dying. Mirisen goes in to comfort Carolina, despite being mad at her, and when Avy comes in a couple minutes later, both Mirisen and Avy are nice to one another. Avy realizes that Mirisen is all right, and the three girls find ways that they can all hang out together despite their differences. |
