He Likes Me? NOOO!
When Kim tells Allisen about her first kiss, Allisen thinks kissing on the lips sounds disgusting. At this point in Allisen’s life, she is not ready for a boyfriend. You can kind of tell she’s not ready when she gets that ushy-gushy card supposedly from Jack. The whole time Allisen thinks Jack likes her in that way, she has one thing on her mind: run! She certainly isn’t ready for that kind of relationship with him (or with anybody), so she ignores him until she finds out that—phew!—the card was actually from Jack’s brother to his girlfriend.
Have you ever found out that someone liked you romantically, and felt awkward because you didn’t like them back? Have you ever had a crush on a friend and tried to hide it? Several times during this book, people ask Allisen if Jack is her boyfriend. She always responds with an exasperated, “No, we are just friends!” I feel like boy-girl friend pairs often have to endure a lot of those “Are you two a couple?” questions. They can get really annoying! But here’s a tip: the more strongly you react, the more people will think that you do like him as more than a friend. You’ll be best off giving just a polite, “No, we’re just friends” and ignoring the teasers. |
