Friends From Back Home

Picture
“Ever since middle school, it’s been hard for me to keep friends. A lot of people like hanging out with the manic me, but then whenever I go into a depressed episode, all my friends sort of… disappear.”

Few references are made about Mariana’s friends from back home, but from what is said, we understand that they all enjoyed hanging around with Mariana, but weren’t interested in spending time with Elyse. This is a good example of what is commonly referred to as a “fair weather friend.” Fair weather friends are the ones who always want to hang out with you to enjoy the fun times, but whenever hard times come around, they’re mysteriously busy or unavailable. A good friend is someone who is there for you not only when you’re feeling great and ready to laugh and have adventures, but also someone who is there for you when you’re sad and lost and just need someone to talk to.
