Zach's Military Deployment

Picture
Lynn has always enjoyed a close relationship with her older brother, Zachary. Now, however, Zach has chosen to join the U.S. Military, and is currently serving out a deployment in Iran. In addition to missing her older brother, Lynn experiences near-constant anxiety about his safety. Her heart jumps into her throat every time she gets a call from her parents, afraid that this will be the day she receives the news that Zach is dead.

It can be scary having a family member who is deployed overseas, especially if they are in an active combat zone. But living life in constant fear is not healthy. Worrying about Zach does not change anything about his situation—it just makes Lynn constantly on edge and unable to live her own life to the fullest. When her parents and grandparents find out how much this constant fear has been affecting her, they remind her that service people are not always in combat, and that rather than worrying, she can give her concerns to God in prayer.  Although casualties in the military do happen, most U.S. service people end up returning safely to their families.
