if i knew how (with Cam Gallant)
Lyrics:
Staring at your post from yesterday All I wish I could see is your face Haven’t talked since that cold day in May Another time that I was late Sometimes I’ve been wandering through a dark forest Sometimes my memories whisper and I can’t ignore it Sometimes I just wish you were here to make me smile, make me laugh Oh oh I was the girl you picked out, riding high Then got my head in the clouds Maybe you needed something from me When I finally came down There’s another girl now Oh, oh Maybe I took you for granted Never loved someone who made me such a romantic Maybe she is there in your arms Being the one I'da been If I knew how And all my friends tell me to let you go But this isn’t just some TV show What we had was deeper than the surface Oh, If only I’d treated you like you were worth it I was the girl you picked out, riding high Then got my head in the clouds Maybe you, needed something from me When I finally came down There’s another girl now Oh, oh Maybe I took you for granted Never loved someone who made me such a romantic Maybe she is there in your arms Being the one I'da been If I knew how Here I am staring at your Instagram You look so happy, and all the pics of me are gone I know maybe you just wanna move on Is there a part of you who still smiles when you hear our song Do you remember those drives, we thought it was the life And all of that time, cruising toward a divide You've got amnesia, we always replay in my mind I was the girl you picked out, riding high Then got my head in the clouds Maybe you needed something from me When I finally came down There’s another girl now Maybe I took you for granted Never loved someone who made me such a romantic Maybe she, is there in your arms Being the one I'da been if I knew how |

Lyrics by Cam Gallant and Kelsey Gallant (2021-2022) Melody by Kelsey Gallant and Cam Gallant (2021-2022) Music by Cam Gallant and Oliver Ocean (2022) Produced by Oliver Ocean at Orb Recording Studios Video by Cam Gallant, contributions by Cody Gallant The Story Behind The Song:
Sometimes Cam and I like to just play around in our home studios and see what we come up with. One night when he was visiting me for Christmas, Cam started playing something on the piano and I started ad-libbing lyrics to it. The music was slow-paced and reminded me of a rainy forest, so I made it a breakup song with analogies about wandering through a forest. My original ad-libbed lyrics were super cliché, so after we’d decided the approximate structure of the song, we went back and re-wrote the lyrics. We went through a few hilariously bad versions before we finally had something we were happy with! Up until this point, all of our songs had been produced by Cam and me at home, but we decided it would be a good experience to get this one produced in a professional studio! I flew down to visit Cam in Texas, and we spent two days at Orb Recording Studio recording the song with producer Oliver Ocean. I had to go home after that, but Cam and Oliver did a few more sessions together before the song was ready to go. The song turned out very different from how we'd first envisioned it, but I'm happy with the finished product! Us at Orb Recording Studios, March 2022
Some original lyrics for you to enjoy:
[Stanza 1]: Staring out the window at the rain All I wish I could see is your face But the sky has been so beige Since the day you went away (Stanza 2 and chorus were the same) [Second verse]: Staring through the tunnel in my mind How was I so naïve and dumb and blind But my life was rainbows and butterflies Till the day you went awayyyy Sometimes I’ve been wandering through a daze Left me wondering if things could’ve changed Now here I am and I lost what meant the most to me Didn’t treat you right, So happy yet so sad you see…. |
