The Story Behind The Song:
I came up with the premise of this song sometime in March 2012, and jotted down some notes about it in a notebook. On a family road trip in June 2012, I was browsing through that notebook and came across the notes. I decided I loved the song idea and wanted to write it! So I wrote the rest of the song during that trip. I remember singing it over and over once we got to our destination, because I LOVED how it came out! I'm not sure what inspired the premise, since it's not about anybody I know or have read about in real life. I do know that I always really liked the song, and that the melody came along with the lyrics. I decided to produce this song when I realized that my Stories album was full of sad songs and was seeming kind of depressing overall. I wanted some not-so-sad story songs to cheer it up, and I decided that this song and "What It Feels Like Inside" fit what I was looking for. My brother Cam and I hired one of our favorite freelancers, Ivan Korohovnyk, to develop the music for this song. The song had always reminded me a bit of Taylor Swift's "Innocent" (which could have been an influence when I first wrote the song; I used to listen to a lot of Taylor Swift back then and "Still An Innocent" was one of my favorites), so we gave that to Ivan as a reference song. He added his own creative touches, and I'm so pleased with how it came out! "Wide-Eyed Innocent Little Girl" is on my debut album, STORIES.
