In 2020, my brothers and I started reading Marissa Meyer's Lunar Chronicles series together. I got really into the series and wanted to write a song about it! My goal was to create a song that included enough references that anyone who'd read the series would recognize that that's what it was about, but to make the references subtle enough that people who hadn't read the series could still enjoy it as a regular song. Some of the characters in the series have the ability to feel others' "bioelectricity" with their minds. The line "Reach out with my mind and feel you by my side" popped into my head, and I decided that it would make a great opening line for my song! I kept working through it, and wrote all the lyrics really quickly because I was so excited about it. Something that's special to me about this song is that it's the one that first got me into producing and releasing my music. After I'd written it, I had all these ideas running in my mind like, "What if they made a movie of The Lunar Chronicles and this could be the credits song? What if I post it on Instagram and Marissa Meyer sees it and shares it with all her followers?" Before this, I'd always thought that actually producing and releasing songs seemed really hard, but with these thoughts, something in my brain shifted. My brother and I had experimented with music production before, recording an album of parodies--why couldn't I produce some of my own songs? I decided I wanted to get a few other songs out there first, so that if people did discover my music through the Lunar Chronicles, they would have more than one song to find. My initial plan was to release 3-5 songs before "PREPARE FOR THE IMPACT", but "PREPARE FOR THE IMPACT" ended up taking a lot longer than I'd expected! I'm okay with that, though, because I really like how it came out. My dad and I tried coming up with some music for it in 2020, but he didn't like how it sounded, so I ended up letting the project sit for a while. In 2023, I found the freelancer Merci on Fiverr, and decided to hire him to come up with music for my song, based my specifications. I am very pleased with his work! Back when I was first writing this song, I came across an artist named Dooodlink on Instagram. Every few days, she'd post a new drawing she'd made of a Lunar Chronicles character! I decided that I definitely wanted to incorporate her artwork into a lyric video for my song. Four years later (once production was actually underway), I was finally able to ask her about it and she said yes! Whether you've heard of the Lunar Chronicles or not, I hope you enjoy my lyrics, Merci's music, and Dooodlink's amazing artwork in this collaborative project.
