Never Be Alone
Lyrics:
Look, world, I know you don’t believe me You laugh behind my back You’re still trying to deceive me Look, world, I know you kinda hate me You don’t wanna hear my words You’re still thinking you can make me Part of a world of flesh and possessions Part of a life of meaningless obsessions But I know this isn’t all there is And so I’m never giving up, I’m never giving in ‘Cause I know where I stand I know what I believe I know that God is true and trust that He won’t ever leave The world may be my house But it will never be my home If all my friends desert me I’ll still never be alone I'll still never be alone Look, world, you think that you can beat me You throw me all the traps You’re still trying to wrap and cheat me Look, world, I know you want to break me You can’t stand to hear the truth You’re still thinkin’ you can make me Part of a world of death and oppression Part of a life of desecrated blessings But I know that isn’t all there is And so I’m never giving up, I’m never giving in ‘Cause I know where I stand I know what I believe I know that God is true and trust that He won’t ever leave The world may be my house But it will never be my home If all my friends desert me I’ll still never be alone I'll still never be alone I’ll never be alone ‘cause God is by my side You can fight me all you want but I’ll still never change my mind You can take away my freedom, you can take away my pride But I have freedom you can’t fathom in the name of Jesus Christ ‘Cause I know where I stand I know what I believe I know that God is true and trust that He won’t ever leave The world may be my house But it'll never be my home If all my friends desert me I’ll still never be alone I'll still never be alone I'll still never be alone God is by my side So I will never be alone |

Lyrics and Melody by Kelsey Gallant (2012) Music by Merci (2024) Mixed by Kelsey Gallant and Cam Gallant Lyric video by Kelsey Gallant The Story Behind The Song:
In college, I took a class called World Voices and Cultures, in which we read literature written by authors from various countries, and discussed what we read. I had lived a pretty sheltered life, and was shocked and appalled by the immoral content I came across in some of these pieces of literature. From what I remember, my professor and most of my classmates didn't share my views about most of the topics we discussed in class. I wrote this song in the back of my notebook as a declaration and assertion that God is God, and I will stand with Him even if you laugh in my face about my beliefs, and even though the world is so full of sin, I will keep going the way that is right and try to lead others that way as well. At some point after I started producing music, I had the idea to produce this song, and tried to develop piano music for it. I didn't get very far, but a few years later I decided that it met the content criteria for my PREPARE FOR THE IMPACT album, and hired the multi-instrumentalist Merci to develop the music. I was very pleased with how he was able to give the song the right mix of mellow and pop vibes! One of my favorite things about how this song turned out is the weird, AutoTune-y sounding harmony that starts at 3:25 (end of last chorus). I think I recorded it as a joke, then decided I loved how it sounded! album cover photo credit: Vickie Statler
