Lyrics:
I’ve seen the ocean, so beautifully teal I’ve seen sunrises, sunsets that make my heart feel The stars in the sky that twinkle at night And make me feel small and loved at the same time I’ve watched the whales as they frolic and play I’ve seen rainbows appear as the sun meets the rain I’ve seen forests and foliage and flowers so bright you can’t miss And You are the artist of all of this I’ve had a best friend since I was eight Always been there for me, though she lives far away And I’ve seen people grow from the difficult times I know I have, I look back and smile And I’ve shared my story to give people hope From the shores of Belize to the New England coast And they’ve poured into me and given me new perspectives And You are the author of all of this The wind in my hair and the smell of the sea The beautiful creatures in the coral reef The view from a mountaintop, every tree is unique Oh oh oh, oh oh The family vacations and song inspirations Surprise invitations, relations with friends Beautiful memories and people to share them with And You’re the Creator of all of this You’re the Creator of all of this

In 2022, I took an amazing two-and-a-half month mission trip to Belize! I grew extremely close to the 8 other young adults I was traveling with (none of whom I'd known prior to the trip), and formed many special memories with the two host families I lived with. I experienced exciting new things like climbing up waterfalls and riding down the highway in the back of a pickup truck. I spent more focused time with God than ever before, and I was baptized the night before we headed back to the US. I tried multiple times to write a song while I was there, because often singing a song that I wrote in a particular place helps me remember that place. I never came up with anything I really liked. Then, while riding the ferry to Belize City, where we'd board our flight home, some lines to a song finally started popping into my head--describing beautiful things I'd seen in nature and how God was the artist of all of them. I made several recordings on my phone, before going back and discovering that I couldn't hear anything I'd recorded because the wind was so strong! I crouched down below the boat's railing and re-recorded everything I could remember, then continued adding onto the song. I knew that I wanted the first verse to focus on God's creations in nature, and the second verse to focus on things I'd seen Him do in my life. I wrote the whole song that day, finishing it up at 5:38pm (either in the airport or on a plane; I forget which). I was so delighted and grateful to God that I'd finally managed to write a song in Belize!!! I started thinking of it as my "Belize song" even though it wasn't specifically written about the trip. A few months later, I hired composer Miguel Mendoza to create music for it. My plan was to release it on August 22, 2023--one year after the Belize trip had started. I'd already conceptualized the video, which would include video clips from Belize as well as pictures of some of my friends from back home (I felt bad that some of my best friends hadn't made it into my "Good Times" video because I hadn't known them yet when I'd made it!). But I got busy, and the song wasn't done by that date... OR that date the following year! Finally, by the three-year anniversary of the trip, I was able to finish it. Although I created the video in 2025, I was purposeful in only including footage from on or before November 7, 2022--the date I wrote the song. I wanted the video to reflect exactly what I was writing about at that moment in time.
